  1. Thanks for this article…I recently got one ivy guard cutting after a lot of searching in Austin and now I am trying to find more info to make sure it grows properly.

  2. Ivy gourd propagation from cutting is super easy and assures you that your ivy gourd will fruit, that is why it’s more common and successful. First, take a sturdy and healthy 6-inch long cutting from the climbing vine. Then plant it in a container filled with a growing medium, give it water after planting, within about a week your Ivy gourd plant will develop. All you need to do is take a semi-hardwood cutting from a healthy stem of the self-fertile plant, which is about 6-8 inches in length. Make sure that you go for a sturdy cutting which is well trimmed.

  3. Hi, Where can I get a cutting of IVY Gourd. I tried growing from Seed but having tough time both germinating and growing. Anyone willing to ship one would be happy to pay

  4. In North America, it’s better to plant the plant in a pot. To save the plant in winter, you have to cut off the stems and leave only about 4 feet long stem from the base. The plant needs to be saved indoor from Nov to April. I put them in the basement, no need to keep near the big windows. When indoor just water it lightly. Some leaves/stems come but they do not grow too long & the growth stops.

  5. I had a profusely fruiting ivy gourd which yielded for more than 3 years. Then I replanted with a rooted cutting from the plant which grew vigorously, produced abundant female flowers but not even a single flower set fruits. There is no male in the nearby areas. What could be the reason for non setting of fruits in the second plant which is propagated from the same high yielding mother plant.
