These are the plants that need a lot of nutrients to grow and produce fruits or flowers. However, raw chicken manure can burn plants and cause damage. It should be composted or aged before use. If composting is done correctly, the process finishes disease-causing organisms, making chicken manure safe to use around plants.

Dragon fruit fertilizer dose

  • Dragon fruits thrive in soil that is slightly less than the level of pH 7. To help make their plant as healthy and strong as possible, experts recommend treating acidic soil with ferrous sulfate and rearing basic soil with chelated iron.
  • Use a small quantity of chelated iron or ferrous sulfate on 1-year-old plants. Spray 7 to 15 grams of chelated iron on any base soil, or scatter a small handful of ferrous sulfate on acidic soil.
  • Apply extra chelated iron on plants 2 years and older. As your Dragon fruit matures, treat the soil with 22 to 29 grams of chelated iron if needed. If your soil is too acidic, continue to treat it with a small amount of ferrous sulfate.

One-year-old plants

For newly planted Dragon fruit, do not apply fertilizer during the first month. Then apply 120 grams of fertilizer, such as 6-6-6 or 8-3-9, every two months from the time growth starts in early spring to the time it stops for winter to early fall. Scatter the fertilizer evenly around the plant, about 3 inches from the stem to about 12 inches away from the plant. Water it well. Also add 4 pounds of well-rotten manure or a summer application of fertilizer per plant, preventing it from touching the plant’s stem. Apply 50 grams urea, and 50 grams superphosphate 3 times per year.

Two and three-year-old plants

After being on the earth for over a year, Dragon fruit roots have been established and are more effective in gaining nutrients from the soil. Plants grow faster and need more nutrition. Apply 150 to 160 grams of the same non-organic fertilizer every two months in the wide diameter around the plant and increase the amount of manure or fertilizer contained above the soil to 3 kg.

Old plants

For Dragon fruit plants four years old or older, three to four Inorganic fertilizer applications spread evenly through the growing season of 230 to 350 grams. Apply manure or compost twice, once in the spring and once in the middle of summer, use about 2.3 kg each time.

Decorative landscaping plants

When growing Dragon fruit as a landscaping plant without worrying about fruit production, not much fertilizer is required.  Dragon fruit is not a heavy feeder. It only requires water occasionally. When the plant is active during the growing season, use slow-time release, low nitrogen cactus fertilizer to fertilize it once a month or once in two months. Too much fertilizing can kill it so be careful. If you want your plant to grow faster, do not apply too much fertilization, but add aging fertilizer or fertilizer from time to time.

During winter, if you are growing your plant in a cold climate, do not give fertilizer. Plants are drought-tolerant once established and low fertilizer means slow growth and less need for pruning to maintain size, important if you have a limited garden room. Fertilize the plants once in early spring and again after finishing the flowers with plant water-soluble fertilizers such as 20-20-20. Mix one tablespoon of manure for each gallon of water.

Fertilizing tips for increasing Dragon fruit yield

  • Dragon fruit requires the proper application of manure and fertilizer for higher production. In the initial stage, more nitrogen should be applied for good botanical growth, and in later stages, high amounts of phosphorus and potash should be applied.
  • Calcium and other Micronutrients are beneficial for this crop. Organic fertilizers play a key role in Dragon fruit growth.
  • Each plant should be applied with 10 to 15 kg of organic fertilizers.
  • The application of chemical fertilizers should be followed 2 to 3 months after planting Dragon fruit when the plant starts growing. Chemical fertilizer should be given depending on soil type.
  • Each plant also needs 40 grams muriate of potash, 90 grams superphosphate 70 grams urea per plant in the botanical stage. Apply a high amount of potash and low nitrogen content on a plant in the fruit-bearing phase to get more production of Dragon fruit.

  • Take 50 grams urea, 50 grams superphosphate, and 100 grams muriate of potash and spread this fertilizer from flower to harvest stage at Dragon fruit plant.
  • Fertilizer schedule for rocky barren land which acts as light soil with the very poor fertility status of the earth. So, during the first two years, 500 grams urea and 500 grams phosphorus, and 300 grams of potassium should be applied in four divisions every year at each pole. Plants grow fast and need more nutrition. After two years, each pole should have been fertilized with 800 grams of nitrogen, 900 grams of phosphorus, and 550 grams of potassium per pole which should be well distributed into six parts.
