Adzuki Beans Container Gardening at Your Home

Today, we learn the topic of “Adzuki Beans Container Gardening Ideas”. The Adzuki bean which is scientifically called as Vigna Angularis or Phaseolus angularis is the favorite of Japanese. This bean can be raised for the purpose of usage as a dried bean and it can be freshly enjoyed in a green pod or it can also be consumed as a nutritious sprout which is crunchy. The adzuki bean plant will be the same as a field pea and will grow up to a height of 2 feet. The flowers of this bean will be yellow in color and will have groups of pods which have the shape of a cylinder. These flowers will have orange or red beans. This is an annual vegetable which can be grown anywhere irrespective of the climate which has sufficient days which are free of frost for the plants in the production of edible pods about 14 days after the appearance of flowers. Garden site preparation:

The Adzuki beans will grow their best in the site which has full sun and a very good drainage system. Adzuki beans will prefer soil which is slightly alkaline whose pH is between 7 to 14, whereas zero is considered to be highly acidic, 7 is considered to be neutral and 14 is considered to be highly alkaline, though these beans are grown in a successful manner in soil pH levels which range from 5.5 to 6.5. In a soil which is more alkaline, adzuki like most of the legumes can fix nitrogen in the soil which makes it available as fertilizer. You can conduct a pH test at home or you can even send the soil out to your local agricultural extension office to test it.

Sowing the seeds:

The seeds of adzuki beans should be planted in the garden directly when the soil temperature in the spring season is about 15°C, for the germination which is reliable. The usage of a soil thermometer will make a great difference in the plantation of the adzuki beans and other types of vegetables, mainly beans which have the seeds which are prone to rot when they are kept in cold for a long time that is in the wet soil. At 10 to 13°C, adzuki beans will take up to 3 weeks for germination while the at 15°C, the plants will grow up in 2 weeks. Keep a soil thermometer 2 inches deep into the ground for getting a good reading for the sake of plantation. The adzuki seeds have to be sown at depth off 1 ½ inch and at a distance of 6 inches. Care and maintenance:

The soil has to be kept moist in a consistent way, but make sure that it is not soggy when you are waiting for the emerging of seeds and all across the growing season. Adzuki will give rise to rot when they are waterlogged. As the seeds of adzuki will take time to emerge, the weeds have to be avoided and it is the most important thing. The weeds have to be removed manually by making use of hands or by making use of a hoe in a delicate manner after 10 days of the plantation when the leaves have come out of the seedlings and for the third time after 3 weeks.
